Introducing Okamura Tea's tea making

Harvesting tea leaves

The tea leaves are picked at our Oguchi Noma Farm in Kagoshima Prefecture from mid-April to early May. The freshly picked tea leaves are then transported within 2-3 hours to the factory located near the farm.

Steaming machine

At the tea factory, the raw tea leaves are first steamed in a high-temperature steamer. This prevents the leaves from oxidizing and changes the color of the leaves to a vibrant green.

Kneading

By applying pressure to the tea leaves and rolling them, the moisture in the tea leaves is evenly distributed. It also makes it easier for the flavor of the tea leaves to be released when brewing the tea.

Seiju (sperm massage)

By applying additional heat and pressure to the tea leaves, the leaves are dried while maintaining their shape.

Aracha tea is complete

Rough tea is tea leaves that have not yet been processed into tea and sold as a product, and is shipped to the Tokai factory in Kagoshima City, where the next step in tea processing takes place.

Final inspection

Our company president, who is a certified Japanese tea appraiser, personally inspects the taste and aroma of the finished tea leaves before they are shipped.
